winners and shortlisted filmmakers 2023

Festival 2023

The 9th Annual Scottish Youth Film Festival took place in Perth on September 30th.

200 young people joined us for an inspiring day of workshops, discussions and screenings with guests from across the world of Film and TV including Directors Raisah Ahmed and Andrew Cumming, SYFF patrons Sara Vickers and Andy Rothney and many, many more.

We had practical demos of sound effects from Krotos, animation Director Will Adams of Wild Child talking about his work and hands-on sessions on special effects and animation as well as an all day acting workshop.

This annual Awards show was our best year, with a superb array of shortlisted films from across Scotland and all of the winners in the room to receive their trohies.

Praise For The Festival

“Professional, heartwarming and planting seeds for the future in so many ways.” - Tim Flood, Filmmaker

“This is a great film festival for young people, it does not try to be grand or exclusive. It encourages all the young people it can reach, to take part and learn something or take something positive away.” - Lee Vann Wakelin, Filmmaker

“All the young people I've worked with, whose films have featured in the festival, really get a lot out of taking part. Well done to everyone involved in making this a highlight of the year in film education in Scotland.” - Kevin Cameron, Filmmaker

First class. Not just a film festival. Two days crammed full of lots of young film students taking advantage of high quality workshops prior to the awards. Brilliant idea.” - Graham Kitchener, Filmmaker
